The Lone Flowering Plant
I've seen many rose bushes in life but one stands out. It was planted in a place where the dirt was packed and flood waters would touch it a few times annually. This bush was determined to thrive and grow. It was thick, bushy and produced quite a few buds and blooms that were in a brilliant medium peach hue. It reminded me of the lady who wanted it planted and loved it dearly. She didn't have many other flowering plants in her yard if any at that time and really didn't know how to care for a rose bush but cared for it the best she could. She was waiting for her new house to be built so she could have flower beds, a front porch swing, plenty of room to accommodate company, relax and enjoy retirement with her husband. She waited what seemed a lifetime for this to happen. But what kept her hope and dream alive looking toward this to come was that lone rose bush. A short time after that dream came true CJD crept into her life. Looking back now that rose bush represents something else to me. Each branch, stem, bud, bloom and spent flower represented areas in which she branched out and lived a life cycle and touched others in ways that cannot be explained. How can one fully describe every detail of an entire rose bush to another. It's like trying to capture a massive mountain chain on one small 35 mm exposure. She wasn't a lone bloom person, she had many blooms. She weathered the winters, floods and heat. Strong and having thorns, yet beautiful and fragrant that allows for any passer by to over look any thorn to pull a rose close enough, cupped in a hand or delicately brought near so the fragrance can be distinguished from others and remembered for a lifetime.
